About and keys
This is the browser version of Life In Nature. It connects to the same world as the game app. Use headphones.
When the game starts, the keyboard focus moves to the game area. If you use a screen reader, it should switch to focus mode
(application mode) by itself; if keys do not reach the game, switch to focus mode (NVDA: NVDA+Space, JAWS: Enter on the game area).
VoiceOver users: turn Quick Nav off.
Main keys
R: stand up or sit down. You start sitting.
Arrow keys: walk forward and back, step left and right. One step per key press; X turns hold-to-walk on or off.
Shift+Left or Right: turn 45 degrees. Shift+Up or Down: turn around. Alt+Left or Right: turn 1 degree.
Page Up and Page Down (or 9 and 7): climb up and down. Ctrl+Space: jump.
Enter: doors, signs and pick up. Shift+Enter: enter buildings and travel points.
Alt+O or Tab: options menu. Ctrl+Shift and a letter: open an item of the options menu directly; the letter is read after each item. Escape: back, or leave the game.
Slash: radio message. Backslash: out of character chat. Ctrl+Grave: reply to the last conversation. Alt+H: conversation history.
Comma and Period: previous and next message buffer. Left and right brackets: previous and next message (hold to keep moving). Delete: quote, report, copy or delete the message.
F10, Shift+F10, Ctrl+F10: newest chat, system and money message.
B: current area. Alt+B: your location. F1: who is online. F3: ping. F9: connection statistics.
H, S, E, U, O, F: health, thirst, energy, hunger, general, sun.
Home and End: master volume. Shift+Home and Shift+End: map music volume. Hold them to keep changing.
F12: copy the last spoken message. F11: copy the last 10. Shift+F11: hear the rest of a shortened message.
V: voice chat on or off. Shift+V: push to talk. Alt+V: players who talked near you (mute one). Alt+Shift+V: microphone check (asks the browser for permission if needed).
Ctrl+Alt+R: record the game sound (and your microphone, if turned on in F8). Press it again to stop; you can then download the recording.
Keys that work differently from the desktop game
Y: copies the last spoken message to the clipboard. A browser cannot record a spoken message, so the desktop Y message is not available.
F8: the settings menu, with the same options as the desktop game (online and offline notifications, flair, arena, auction and game event announcements, voice chat, buffer sounds, sign beeps, dream sounds, music box volume and more) plus the web ones (speech output, game voice, 3D sound). They are also on the Settings page before you log in. The game's own menu is Alt+O.
Alt+Shift+C: your coordinates and facing. This key exists only in the web version, because the browser uses Ctrl+Shift+C itself.
Ctrl+F1: a list of every key of the web version.
Shift+F12: the same as F11, copy the last 10 spoken lines.
G: hold it and use the arrow keys to look around with the camera. On the football pitch G passes the ball and does not stop you from walking.
Some Ctrl+Shift letter shortcuts are taken by the browser (for example Ctrl+Shift+I, J, N, T, W and Q). If one of them does not reach the game, use Alt+O instead.
Typing sounds are on, like in the desktop game; turn them off in the web options, F8.
The new map builder tool and the lag meter are only available in the desktop game.
In the game the whole screen is a touch area, with the same gestures as the Life In Nature app, and no buttons. On Android the page goes full screen at your first touch in the game, so the browser's bars are hidden and nothing is in the way; on iPhone and iPad open the game from your Home Screen for that (see below).
How to start
Log in with your screen reader on. Once you are in the game, the game tells you to turn the screen reader off: turn it off, and from your first touch the game speaks with its own voice and the whole screen takes gestures, like the app, with no buttons in the way. Swipe up and hold to walk, lift your finger to stop. On Android press the back button of your phone to go back, like in the app; on iPhone and iPad tap the top left corner to go back. You can also press the button below before you log in, so the game already speaks with its own voice.
With VoiceOver on iPhone or iPad
Safari does not let web pages use VoiceOver's Direct Touch, so it cannot be switched on for the game area, even when it is in your rotor. Log in with VoiceOver, then turn VoiceOver off in the game (for example with a triple click of the side button, if you have set that shortcut): the game speaks with its own voice and the whole screen takes your gestures. Turn VoiceOver back on the same way when you need it. For a screen with no browser bars at all, open the game from your Home Screen: in Safari choose Share, then Add to Home Screen, and start the game from that icon.
With TalkBack on Android
Like the app, the game takes gestures only with TalkBack off: use TalkBack to log in, then turn it off in the game; the game reminds you when you get in. With no screen reader running, the game speaks with its own voice. If you use another screen reader that lets your touches through, keep it on: at your first touch in the game it reads you a question, and a single four finger tap then lets it read the game; the game keeps that choice. (A three finger tap stays the voice chat key.) You can change it any time in Touch Settings in the action menu (a single two finger tap in the middle).
